Baseball is America’s game, often referred to as the all American past time. Myrtle Beach is proud of their minor league team, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. Formerly the Durham Bulls of Durham, North Carolina, the franchise relocated to Myrtle Beach in 1998. The first game of this Class A Minor League Baseball team was played on BB&T Coastal field in 1999.
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans is a member of the Carolina League south. The Pelicans have brought home several championships including the Mills Cup Championship. Many of their players have gone on to play Major League Ball.
2011 will see the Myrtle Beach Pelicans open their first season as a Player’s Development Team for the Texas Rangers. For the first time in twelve years the Pelicans will change sponsorship. The contract has been signed for the next four years and they will open the spring 2011 season with an exhibition game, Texas Ranger vs Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.
Home games are always exciting as The Pelicans offer special treats to their fans. There are all you can eat seats right behind the right field wall. The staff can assist with group events and birthday parties. Members of the group and/or party will have a chance to not only hear their name announced during the game but their name will be put up in lights. On any night fans will have a chance to win giveaways, enjoy various promotions and see some of the most spectacular fireworks in the Grand Strand.
