After the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base closed, a group of entrepreneurs found a way to put the vacant 114 acres to good use. They created a modern urban village complete with places to live, eat, shop and play. Located on the south side of Myrtle Beach near Socastee is The Market Common.
The shopping available at The Market Common is through popular national chains such as Barnes & Noble, Banana Republic and Victoria’s Secret. Specialty shops offering unique items are dispersed throughout the village. The Big Tuna offers one-of-a-kind gifts created by local artisans. Random offers coffee, clothing and accessories.
Dining at the Market Common offers a wide variety of choices. Tommy Bahama’s, Tropical Café, Roy & Sid’s and Travinia Italian Kitchen are just a few of the casual dining places available to choose from. So many cuisines to choose from it would take several days for guests to enjoy all that is offered.
There is an open playground, walking/jogging paths and regularly scheduled events through out the year. Book signings and festivals for all the seasons and every reason happen in the Valor Memorial Garden and across the lake near the ball fields. Enjoy family time together as well as watching families of water fowl enjoy the lake.
